This year we are celebrating 15 years of dignity, empowerment, and community for resettled refugee and immigrant women in St. Louis. Forai stands for Friends of Refugees and Immigrants. The vision of Forai from our first meeting in October 2009 was to be a friend to resettled refugee and immigrant women in St. Louis. To live out God’s call to “love the stranger in our midst.” To do for someone what we would want done for us if we were new, didn’t speak the language, were struggling to provide for our families, or felt lonely and afraid. And we wanted to do something practical that would meet those felt needs for connection and tangible needs for income.

Over the past 15 years, together, we have impacted more than 150 women from more than 28 countries. Forai has been a place of refuge for the refugee, connecting women with American friends and opportunities to generate income for their families while learning jewelry-making or sewing and other crucial job-related skills.

A year-end donation of any amount says “yes” to welcoming more women into the Forai empowerment process.
- A set of English Language Learning Materials ($50)
- A sewing machine or jewelry-making tools to use at home ($100)
- Monthly training in English, computer literacy, and job-related skills for Admin Artisans ($250)
- Six months of ongoing training for a Forai Artisan ($500)
- A six-week Community Sewing Class for 6-11 women ($1000)
